The 12 Days of Cookbooks: The America’s Test Kitchen Family Cookbook 3rd Edition

Day 2…

The folks at Cook’s Illustrated have really figured out every angle when it comes to cooking instruction. I’m not talking methods. I’m talking mediums.

Magazines, cookbooks, TV shows, websites and just about every other way that one could think of to communicate a recipe. Sometimes it’s downright mind boggling. It’s nice they have a plan for media domination, but, we’re here to talk about their 736 page monster: The America’s Test Kitchen Family Cookbook 3rd Edition.

This thing is BIG. I mean come on, 736 pages? It stocked with over 1,200 recipes. That will keep even the most ambitious home chef occupied for quite some time. They may need to send a search party in to your kitchen after a few months to make sure you’re still hanging in there. I guess no one could complain about this book being skimpy.

The bottom line is, this book has something for everyone. It’s certainly hefty, but, it has contents. We all know that the America’s Test Kitchen/Cook’s Illustrated brand is known for delving deep into the fine details of each recipe and striving for the best possible outcome. They don’t disappoint here.

This re-issue includes a 50 page cookware buying guide. With so many cooking gadgets, utensils, pots, pans and the like on the market today, this is a pretty nice resource. it’s a spiral bound book, so using it in the kitchen is a breeze.

This kitchen companion would make a fine gift for any skill level of chef/cook. You might want to wrap it for the tree though, it would take a mighty large stocking to hold this beast.

The 12 Days of Cookbooks: The I Love Trader Joe’s Cookbook

OK, tis the season. Everybody’s doing it so, why not the Cookbook Man too? Hopefully, I’m right in the sweet spot of the annual cookbook list season.

Now, this isn’t going to be a list of the best selling, coolest. newest or most trendy cookbooks. This is my list damn it and I’ll include what I like (and what I think you’ll like too!). So, to review, for the next twelve days (give or take), I’ll post some info on a cookbook that I think should make your holiday gift list for that special someone. It’s just that easy.

The I Love Trader Joe’s Cookbook: 150 Delicious Recipes Using Only Foods from the World’s Greatest Grocery Store.

Alright, here’s a pop quiz. Who doesn’t like shopping at Trader Joe’s? Insert your answer here…
If you answered NOBODY, then you’re a big winner, move to the head of the class. Everybody likes shopping at Joe’s, that’s what makes this cookbook such a hit with me.

Cherie Mercer Twohy really delivers with this fun and delicious book. Here are some of the unique recipes that you can find inside the pages.

Champagne-Saffron Risotto
Prosciutto Turkey Tenderloin with Fingerlings
Maui Beef on Coconut Rice with Macadamia Nuts and Basil
Sweet-Glazed Salmon with Corn Salsa
Hazelnut-Plum Baby Cakes
Red, White and Blue Firecracker Potato Chips
Caramelized Onion, Fig and Gorgonzola Tart

Sounds pretty mouthwatering, right? And, best of all, I think it’s a one stop shopping situation. I’ll just bet you can find all of the necessary ingredients in the aisles of  your local Trader Joe’s. How convenient is that?

Add this one to your gift list. Hopefully, you’ll be rewarded with some great meals as someones way of saying thank you.
